Wildflowers In Texas

It has been a very full and busy three weeks since my last blog post...when I fail to keep up I never know where to begin again. We picked a terrific spring to explore the "Hill Country" of Texas. Wildflowers are a big deal here and we have seen why.

My last post was about our time in Big Bend Nat'l Park. We took a couple days to travel from Big Bend to San Antonio.
We saw the Alamo. It happened to be St. Patrick's Day when we were in San Antonio so the Riverwalk was in Irish celebration mode. They even paint the river green. We listened to and Irish band for a bit. We had a delicious lunch of corned beef and cabbage.
Before leaving town the next day we drove to San Jose Mission and did some exploring of the National Historic Parks by bicycle along the San Antonio River.

From San Antonio we headed to the hills. We had an early tour of the LBJ Texas White House. It is in a beautiful setting and is a fairly simple home.
This is a view of the front of the home. The Johnsons purchased it from an aunt soon after he became a senator. They made several additions. The large oak on the left in the photo was known as the "Cabinet Oak" as many cabinet meetings were held under its branches.
LBJ enjoyed driving guests across the river below the dam shown in photo below. The setting is just in front and a little down stream from the house.

Lady Bird Johnson's big legacy to Texas was roadside wildflowers... The roadsides were seeded with flowers and they still flourish. I will close this post with a few of my photos...
